Firstly, it's a mk2 2.0 petrol pop-top. The gauges have a mind of their own. They're possessed, and they've been like this since I bought it. Turn the ignition on and the fuel gauge will go up to about 3/4 regardless of the amount of fuel in it. Temp gauge will be zero. Within minutes of starting up the temp gauge will be in the red even though it isn't overheating. Both gauges will eventually settle to a more realistic correct setting, before then both changing their minds again. I've heard there's a voltage regulator or such behind the dash which can cause these kind of symptoms, so firstly has anyone else heard of this before or am I barking up the wrong tree? Thanks in advance.

You are right, its the regulator. I may still have one on a spare dash but it might be the same. I find knocking on the dash repeatedly when it goes up sometimes works ;D

As I haven't taken my dash apart yet and don't know what it looks like, any chance of the eBay item number please?
