Just some advice please peeps.
My '85 Transit AutoSleeper is currently a standard 4 speed manual box, and a 4 speed manual isn't necessarily the best for long motorway journeys.
As luck would have it, a friend of mine is into Transits and has sat in his garage 2x Transit 5 speed boxes and 2x 4 speed plus overdrive boxes. He doesn't actually want to part with any as he's restoring a mk1 panel van and wants spares, *but* he said he'll help me out.
So I'm wondering....
I think the 5 speed box would be longer so I'd need to sort something with the prop. I don't know how big the 4 speed overdrive box is.
I have the choice of one of either box. What would I need for each option please?
Thanks.

both are good but personally I would go for the MT75. Its a later box and they go on and on. You need the matching front prop section and crossmember though. You also will need to cut a new hole in the floor to the right of the original as the 5 speeds gear lever comes out in a different place. Oh and for the pinto you need an adapter plate.

Hmmm... I'd rather not go for cutting the floor unless I have to, so is that just necessary for the MT75 box or any 5 speed box? If you see my Cortina or Capri you'll know I'm scared of modern stuff! TBH, the Type 9 or 4 speed with overdrive is free so that's my most likely route if I can sort anything I need for prop, g/box mount etc. The money I'd spend on the better MT75 box alone would pay for the whole of either other conversion I think. On a tangent, I've had someone randomly knock on the door today asking if it's for sale. Gave me a warm feeling to know there's a love of Transits out there.

the new hole is only for the MT75. The type9 and OD use the original hole.
