After an earlier post about changing the standard 4 speed on my mk2 2.0 pinto nearly everyone is recommending to go the MT75 route. I've had a quick check in this technical section and not found the answer I'm looking for so over to you peeps please. I'm wondering just what I'd need and need to sort?
* Obviously an MT75 box with its gear lever * What crossmember and will there be modification needed? * What bellhousing is required or will it fit straight on? * What about things like a clutch, dust plate, starter - are they the same? * What prop? * Speedo cable?
A lot of questions there sorry. I'm still thinking the T9 is the cheapest option but the parts and recommendations for it just don't seem to be around.

Just done the same but fitted a t9. Really nice box and much smoother but not the same power at all. We (me and puks sponsored mechanic) decided to change it as there was quite alot of clutch slip and leaks. On removal we found that the clutch was shot but the leak was from the lump to the gearbox. I really like the new box but it took a long time to find one and by the time we had fitted the box, rearranged the mountings, replaced the clutch, it was not a cheap option or easy. The problems we found were that there had already been a number of "customisations" to get the pinto and box in, so we had to change quite alot to get the new one to fit properly (2new brackets are still on order to make it belts and braces) if there is nothing in particular wrong with your existing box, personnally i would make sure i had other issues covered first and wait for something related (like the clutch) to give up...but yes, your list and maybe more would need to be considered for t9 hope that this helps

Remember jono has a Mk1 which from the factory didnt even have a gearbox crossmember. As the Mk1 and Mk2 have the same floor pan and also the same as the early Mk3, that has the t9 from the factory. So the floor shouldnt need cutting. As for the speedo being off, thats down to the drive.

There was a MK3 indeed Jono, heres Spud, he's a MK3 ;D As for yer MT swap, you will need MT75 box MT75 crossmember Front end of MT friendly propshaft (with flange) MT75 gearlever You need to modify the mt x member to fit the MK2 chassis mounts, cut a hole for the gear lever (to the right of the old one) Make up hybrid propshaft with MK2 rear and MT flange front. You may need to move to position of the exhaust front pipe to clear the bigger box. Old clutch will fit with the new box.

try not to weld the crossmember to the chassis or you will have to remove the gearbox and engine when you do the clutch

dare I say a rusty Mk5 would be a good donor........ Dare away, but I thought a certain one couldn't go anywhere due to 'official entaglements'? I think I'm getting there on knowing what I need. Can someone in the know please confirm: * MT75 box and gear lever from a mk3/4/5 * MT75 crossmember, again from mk3/4/5 * Front end of MT75 prop, again from mk3/4/5 * Use my existing starter, flywheel, dust plate, and rear prop sectio While there I may as well put a new clutch, clutch plate, and release bearing in if needed, for which the clutch and plate would be my normal 4 speed into pinto clutch kit but release bearing specific to MT75? Then I'd need some sort of adapter plate for the MT75 to pinto - what's that about and are they the mk3/4/5 again? I'm used to modifying the tunnel for a gear lever and the speedo being out after doing 4 speed to T9 in Cortina's, so no worries there. Am I covered here?
