My 1979 Mk 2 camper van also failed on Nearside and Offside obligatory mirrors insecure, they need the bolts tightening, but you have to take the mirror glass out to get to this bolt. the bolt looks rusty and the swivel part looks shot, any idea's. I'm going on ebay now to see if there are any new ones for sale.

Take them off completely as long as you have the internal mirror you are ok.

Fook that, even driving to the MOT station and back without mirrors! I say get the superglue out. Carefully run a couple of drops between the head and the little plastic grommet(that's between the head and arm) then again between the grommet and arm. Speaking of the grommet, is it still in one piece? Have you tried WD40 and then tightening the head?

Oh and find another MOT station, yours is WAY too picky!

Just looked at the pics of your van and it looks like your mirrors aren't original and it looks like there is a way to get into the mirror at the top of the housing. Maybe you could access the bolt that way. Failing that do as fred says and glue them in position!
