Hi all, just wondered what the chances are of fitting power steering on a mk2 2.5di are? Anyone know what would fit and how much grief is involved? My arm muscles are toning up quite nicely, but gawd this old girl is a bit of a handful, cant help but love it though

My understanding is that the really early mk3 boxes had Power steering but are as rare as . Some I believe have changed the whole front ends to mk4/5 , giving steering rack rather than box . Me personally I'm going to fit a corsa electric unit when I get 5 minutes.

Probably a bit naughty of me to direct you to the other forum, but oldskooler did a great write up on fitting a Mk3 p/s box to his Mk2 here: fordtransit.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=47237I have just bought a Mk3 p/s box for my Mk1, and will take some pics as I fit that, but it will be pretty much the same as the thread above. Mk3 LWB is the p/s box you need, although everyone tells me they are rare. Otherwise electric unit is the way to go. Friend of mine fitted an MGB unit to his Mk2 with V8, can hardly tell it is fitted by looking, but works a treat! Conrad

Is that an MGF unit? Did he need all the black box stuff that the corsa one does as it looks a more compact unit...

consider your bottom smacked conrad...... Oh I dunno, seen you hanging out there at the "O.K. Corral" a bit lately Fred Is that an MGF unit? Did he need all the black box stuff that the corsa one does as it looks a more compact unit... Sorry you are right,it is an MGF unit, I called it an MGB unit which is most definitely wrong It is really compact, it almost bolted in to the Mk2! Top half of the column is MGF, which was the right length. But it meant he had to use an MGF type spline steering wheel boss. You could cut it off and weld the Transit top part on so you can keep the original steering wheel. It does use a controller, but is a very small circuit board with a potentiometer on it, I think it just replaces the square wave speed signal input so you can dial up however much assistance you want. I haven't driven it, but he tells me it works a treat:D Conrad

Have your king pins power greased and keep your tyres at 50 psi that's my way and its all good and still standard !! if you've got play in the steering then it tightens up like land rover steering box just time and a grease easy

Im with Mr Brown, Mine was poo but after some work (i think kingpins and a new track rod) its very good now. Dont get me wrong will never be power steering though. One of the guys from the ok corral installed electric with a switch (Robbie cee) to alleviate the lightness once its moving but thats on mk3.
