Originally a 1979 before bieng rebuilt in 1988 with new phase 2 Chassis cab and a camper body fitted by Rotherham Caravans. The original 1.6 engine was replaced by a 2.0 HC unit with twin chokes Weber The van has only covered 7600 miles since its rebuild in 1988. Ive owned "Ronnie" for 6 years and spent much more than i care to remember on upgrading such as fitting overdrive gearbox, uprating rear springs, new shocks all round, new carb, recored radiator and electronic ignition The interior furnishings have been reupholstered and new curtains and flooring. The cab has new carpet and Mk7 seats. I had the bottom of the doors doors reskinned and a cab respray in diamond white 2 years ago As you can see from the pictures There is a 4 ring burner/grill and oven, 3 way fridge, gas water heater and gas fire. Also toilet and shower and Fiamma wind out awning. Ive just come back from a 700 mile trip to Wales and it never missed a beat. This has been my pride and joy and havebeen to many shows and won a few trophys Sadly it needs to go to finance my latest resto So if you think you would like this van, im thinking £6000 is a fair price and is much much less than ive spent on him, of course im open to discussion should you want to talk money. I doubt you will find a better one, he just needs a good home

if it had a new chassis cab AND body fitted in 1988, is there anything left of the 1979 van? just curious.

Truth is, i dont know, but its was deemed to have too many new parts to be considered the same vehicle. I think they did things differently back then.
It was written off in 1982 and a new chassis cab body shell was purchased and all mechanical components were transferred.

A new CHASSIS cab makes it sound like it had a new chassis as well as the cab, which would fit with the Q reg. The company I used to work for did this with a crashed Mk3 (sorry Fred)...just bought a complete new body and transferred in everything else.
Is it still classed as a 79? I ask that because, for an Irish purchaser, that would be most imprtant as pre 1980 would be cheap Motor Tax, cheap Vehicle Registration Tax and test exempt.Very important. Not that I can afford it anyway, just curious.

Its actually registered as 1988 on log book.
I very nearly sold it today. Fella came to look at it with his wife, hes been asking questions all week and was worried about insuring a Q plate. I told him its no problem with RH specialist in essex.
Anyhow he came to look , i showed him over it, he liked it, said he would have it. So, i told him the few foibles it had like clutch judder etc and he better had take it for a drive to satisfy his own mind.
He came back said he would still have it gave me a deposit, then decided to look underneath. he started prodding at the spring hangers (they are fine) then said there is some oil on the underside of the engine (what engine hasnt?) and he did noticed a slight pulsating on the brake pedel which i noticed myself but it works and stops fine and im guessing the disc is running out a bit.
So then he says hes changed his mind, so i gave him his deposit back, but i did tell him it is 34 years old and ive had it 6 years and it has never let me down, and its unlikely that you will find a better one.
He said he would think about it and check out the insurance costs, his wife did like it tho so he might be back.
And i let him have it for 5k. Oh well never mind
