Was just locking up to go into a shop and (as often happens) a bloke trapped in traffic in some modern wannabe M6 said through the window 'I used to have one of them' (Mk2). I said I bet you regret getting rid. As he crawled off I just heard 'yeah I do'. I get this every so often. So come on, whats your early transit stories?

mine was when I left school and went on the yts scheme think it was around sept '83(was the first ones on the scheme).I went working for a furniture/electrical/carpet shop working in the warehouse.after a few months they got a mk2 luton single wheel in which they had to put 3/4 inch steel sheets to keep the wheel on the road.after a year they gave me the job of driver in Canterbury driving said van and I loved that jod and van.tell ya though driving along the m2 I strong wind hitting the van from the side was fun the van would be at a 45 degree angle with the steering into the wind and then the wind would stop and wahey you'd be all over the carriage way. then had to jobs working for psb agency and staffsign driving the workers around in lwb mk2 minibuses.

When I were little, my brother and I were into OO model railways. There was a shop in Bracknell near where we lived that did secondhand OO stuff, we pestered and pestered our Dad to take us there one saturday morning. It took a couple of hours pestering but in the end he gave in, we piled into the Hillman Minx estate and Dad grudgingly took us to the shop. Half way there we were turning into a side road when we were greeted by the sight of a dark blue MK1 transit hurtling down said road on our side!! Poor old dad did his best to avoid it but I will never forget the sight of the nearside headlamp of the Tranny as it exploded on contact with the front of the Minx! Well, despite no seatbelts (not fitted then) we were all OK, Dad set about beating the Tranny driver up but was stopped by a passer by The Minx was pretty badly bashed but the Transit just had a bent wing and bumper and broken headlamp, helluva introduction to the veritable Transit
