Trying to get insurance on my tipper but slightly shocked at the price.
Some companies I've spent 30 mins on phone to then find out they don't cover tippers!
Just wondered if I was over reacting or there's a much better company out there I don't know of!?
It's a 1985 mk2 tipper.
Engine conversion to di banana and mt75 5 speed
I'm 30, clean licence with 7 NCBs to put on this policy. Kept at home on drive, 7000 miles.
I'm using it for business use as well as SDP. Which is where the price increase over a normal classic lies?
Best so far is Adrian flux at £593. (Inc breakdown) Nfu £674 (no breakdown) Footman James ( still waiting for price, I already have my rs escort with them but can't to multiplicity due to business use on transit)
Direct line, RH classic, HIC, Hagerty, Lancaster, isis won't touch a tipper!!!
Any help much appreciated

I ended up with Autonet (I think) which is HIC, which is cover with Aviva.
Adrian Flux are living in fantasy land with my quote.

I've avoided it so far due to the minefield it could create with the age and the nonstandard engine/box. Suppose I could create a new email address and give it a try. There's no way them bastards are have my email to sell on! I called one company who's website say they specialise in tippers. The lady asked me what make the transit was lol! I ended up with Autonet (I think) which is HIC, which is cover with Aviva. Adrian Flux are living in fantasy land with my quote. I'll try that one tommrow, HIC already told me it was a no go No body battered an eyelid about the di conversion the issue seems to be that it's a tipper and it's void of any classic status as I want daily use & business use.

What about Peter James and Keith Michaels both worth a try and you can speak to a real live human being based in the UK I've heard if Peter James, will add it to the list though to be honest in getting pretty fed up going through the same old waffle, having spend most of the morning on speaker phone whole trying to work at the same time. That's why I really wanted to use Nfu, I've been with them before, their office is just down the road from me and they are 'real' people. But the quote just come back at £674 and no breakdown. Adrian still wins with £593 and uk/European breakdown! Think this may well be the best price I'll find, just feels a bit heavy still considering my other cars range from £150-300 per year!

It took me ages to sort mine which is on commercial use, have you tried ringing the NFU back, there's usually something they can do on the prices, are they mirroring your no claims from something else? Is the breakdown cover any use? When i looked it was just recover to place of safety/ nearest place for repair and not back to your place or onwards with your journey.
BTM I think mine has a Mk3 towbar - looks like you could hang a tank from it

BTM I think mine has a Mk3 towbar - looks like you could hang a tank from it Yeh I tried Nfu again and asked if they could get closer to the Adrian but said that was their best price. It's annoying as I insure my house with them (£1200 per year!!!) which they also took into account on their best price. Breakdown on Adrian was to home in uk. Though it's not really the deciding factor as I've never had breakdown cover in the 13 years I've been driving! I really didn't think it would be so hard to insure this van but maybe £600 is about right, just a lot more than I had expected. Ps, I assume you have a mk2 with mk3 towbar with reference to my other thread

Hi Fred Thanks a lot for this had a good chat with them I'm all signed up and paid £466 way more realistic and I'm actually happy to pay that. They didn't even seem to mind that it was a tipper, said they have lots of modified vans and motor homes which are the same ball game. Thanks again
