Just bought a Mk2 1985 tipper, currently running a 205 2.0ltr Pinto and 4 speed.
The pinto is freshly built with only 700 miles on it so is a nice engine and It didn't complain once on the 300 mile trip home from buying her.
It's going to be my daily work truck so I really want the diesel for reliability, extra pulling power and slightly better economy.
The 4speed box although in great condition just isn't enough so as I'm half way there I may as well diesel the van too.
I have a 1995 Di and mt75 box. Its a good known engine with 105k on it but missing a few bits such as the injection pump. It was annoyingly cut from the van so things like the clutch and speedo cable are dead.
So I have mk2 van, a di and a box. This is what I think I need to complete the conversion having scanned the forum for old threads and looking at what's missing from the engine. Please correct me if I'm wrong on anything.
▶️Mk3/4 propshaft (front half)
▶️MT75 crossmember
▶️Rear exhaust section
▶️Fuel injection pump (will hopefully get a Bosch as they are better Apparantly)
▶️Fuel injection rail
▶️Auxiliary belt
▶️Coolant pipes?
▶️mk3/4/5 Radiator???
▶️Clutch cable?
▶️Speedo cable?
▶️Air filter
Need to make plate to block egr.
Pipe to do fuel return to tank.
I think that's it!
I'm hoping to find a smiley in a scrapyard then should be able to get bits all at once.
Only thing I'm a bit unsure on is the propshaft?
I've read somewhere that I need a full mk3 chassis cab prop, but also read that I could make a hybrid with a mt75 front section and my mk2 rear!? I'm wondering if the difference in information is because mine is a tipper and not a panel van?
Also not sure what pump the di engine had originally but assume I could fit either make (Bosch is better?) also not sure how keen a scrapy would be if I wanted to take an injection pump from a complete engine?.
I've read most of my loom should hook up with out problems or minimal modifications?
I'll get some pictures up as soon as I get a chance.
I should have bought a complete donor van, but the engine i have was in the same village as me and ready on a pallet. I don't have the time, space or time for the hastle of buying and getting a vehicle home to strip and then dispose of.
I don't usually panic too much but I'm hoping to borrow my dads workshop (lift, welder etc all on tap). So although there will be 3 of us (two full time mechanics) I need to make sure we can get it done and driving in one day!
Hence why I need to be totally confident I've got everything I need ready.
Thanks in advance.
