been attacking the pillar as much as possible cutting out rot and welding in clean metal.just tacked in for now. rot removed fron middle and new bits got to put an indent in it where the catch that hold the door from swinging open goes. alittle nearer the top

the last few days I've been trying to sort out the bottom part of the pillar and getting nowhere.first I tried to fold a section but wasn't happy with it.yesterday I poked about where the rust was and realised that the very bottom is a totally different shape, good old ford designers,so took a different approach.copied the shapes onto cereal box and cut out some metal.today was fine shaping and welding together and this is the end result.needs fully welding but I RAN OUT OF BLOODY WIRE!! the bottom section new bit and showing off its curves! after opinions here.i've cut the corner panel just by the swage line above the lights.do i: 1 cut the rest out up to the roof or 2 cut the s/h panel in half and join the 2 together?

If its not rotten no point in cutting it out really BUT if you join them you're going to need to make sure they are absolutely in line

I reckon you put in as few patch panels as you can, means less heat and less work in the end. Your doing a bang up job so far, keep up the good work

wasn't gonna do anything to the old girl today as of not having any wire but i'm glad I did. I decided on advice to cut the s/h pillar/panel in half so some of the work was wasted(and the wire). trimmed down the panel about just to fit it and was very pleased with the result.just needs the bottom trimming and repairing and the light holder adapting and then welding up.i don't have a joggler but managed to bend the top of the panel so it tucks under the original.

I really envy you guys with your access to old vans for parts and panels, i have called every wrecker withing 100 km`s of me and theres not a single mk2 anywhere. I even called a specialist transit wrecker in another state only to be told they dont have anything before 1991

I feel so much better about mine now, the rust on mine is mainly the bottom of the front panel, I started taking the interior out today so it might get a lot worse yet Good luck with your repairs and please keep the pictures and updates coming.
