Hi just joined! I am a die hard Fordie, I have A 1956 Ford Zephyr Saloon, 1956 Zodiac Convertible, 1957 Zephyr Convertible, 1999 Ford Cougar(future classic?) Had loads of Anglias, had them since I passed my test in 1995! Loved 400E Vans and Thames trucks, but there was more than a soft spot for mk1 and 2 Transits. Prefer the curvier mk1's.I have my eye on a nice mk 1, 77. Its an auto, double axle, sliding doors. Only binder is the auto but guess that wpuld be cool. Guessing they are quite rare? Has a 2 litre. Now some questions! a) has the dvla move the classic curfew from 1973 cars yet? b) Is it possible to slot a V6 in? If the rad was made using two seperate rads either side? Does anyone have a nice mk1 with sliding doors that is a manual for sale? I guess most people ate after the sliding door model?
Thanks Gary

Hmmm I use a phone as being a backward Islander I have no pc! Not sure how I load pics from my phone? Normally there is an option to do that? I do not see one on here?

Hi, Yep anything before jan 1975 is tax exempted at the moment. Pinto will fit with a flat front so would have though a V6 would be easier

Excellent! Thanks for the info! So is the historical tax thing now on a rolling year thing, there was talk of it? So a V6 may go in! Its tempting! Just wonder if the auto box will handle it if its just a 2.5 Cologne? Or should I go for the big juicy fruit Essex? Thanks

Don't think its a rolling date so could be stopped at the next budget - probably just a gimmick to try and gain a few more votes.

Hi matey, pinto goes in with mods as DR says, V6 is not as easy as you would think, you will have to move the engine mounts and gearbox further back.

Welcome mate! V6 Essex was a option, but with a bullnose. The tax exemption is now rolling again, but is set at 40 years. So you have 2 years to go with a 77.

Hi, thanks for the great info chaps! Yeah I guessed fitting a bullnose would get the V6 in but kinda ruins originality, which I know trying to fit a V6 does too, but was hoping to keep it a bit of a sleeper from the outside! When recommisioning are there any brake parts that will be hard to find?

It's all hard to find, some motor factors still do wheel cyls and shoes, pads etc, hoses come up on eBay regularily too.

Remember, the V6 was an option engine, so the bullnose 'could' be original, but obviously not to your van
