To get the build year off your chassis number check this table. BD at the beginning is UK and 05 is Southampton.

how do you go about proving to the dvla that your ford transit landliner mk1 motor caravan was manufactured before the 10/01/1075 to to get tax exempt my vin is BP05PL56083 Thanks
It's all right there in the VIN number. BD is UK 05 is Southampton P is 1974 L is January This is how Ford themselves tell what parts to order when needed after manufacture. What does your V5 say under date of manufacture or registration? As you know, the important bit is manufacture not registration. If yours was registered early 1975, it MUST have been made in 1974 as not only does it take time to manufacture the base chassis cab, the camper body itself takes time to build too, so in all it could have been the best part of a year between manufacture and registration. The VIN is set by Ford when the chassis leaves the production line, and it could have sat about waiting to be sold. Once at Caravans International (who built Landliners) they would have taken a bit of time to complete the body, converting the chassis cab to a camper. Like I said, around 9 months in all.

Ford didn't designate by series, yours is a Mk1 phase2.

I haven't heard of DEA in relation to registrations or VIN numbers. Do you know what it stands for? It's not possible to manufacture a camper van or even the base chassis cab in 10 days, so the date of manufacture MUST have been in 1974. I appreciate it's the DVLA we are talking about, but common sense tells you the van was made in 74.

Would they accept the VIN decode from an expert who has engineering qualifications? I'm. Looking at you Muttley...
